A Day in Los Alamos

It’s always nice to get out of a town even if its just for a day, so some of my closest friends jumped in the car and drove an hour north to the quaint town of Los Alamos. Los Alamos is easy to accidentally miss while driving on the 101 from Santa Ynez to Santa Maria, but it holds so much charm in such a small area.

Bell Street is Los Alamos’ main street. Literally, it’s one street that’s only seven short blocks long and makes you feel like you’re walking throughout an old cowboy movie when they were heading “west.” If you’re a sucker for an small town, Los Alamos is right up your alley.

I’m a big fan of Folded Hills’ wine and I’ve grown a love for Grenache, so I wanted to try their past winemaker’s own wine label, A Tribute to Grace. A Tribute to Grace sits right on Bell Street and has floral details spread around the grounds, which immediately inflict happiness upon anyone who walks in.

Angela Osborne, winemaker and owner of A Tribute to Grace, moved here from New Zealand in 2006 to dedicate her time to making some of the best Grenache on the California Central Coast. All of her wines are single-vineyard sourced to maintain authenticity, and remain 100% Grenache.

After we enjoyed Angela’s wines, we stopped by Bodega, which also lives on Bell Street. I’ve been wanting to spend a day here for a long time! It feels like you’re walking into someone’s home, but you’re amongst lots of other people. This is the perfect spot to spend a Sunday afternoon under the oak trees, which I’m a complete sucker for.

Bodega’s vibe is relaxing and mellow, just like the town it calls home. Their menu features all natural and organic wines and beers. Some are local, some are from far away, so you get best of both worlds! The entire grounds are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, which contributes to the relaxing feeling that consumes you, but the greenhouse is another main attraction that will ready to move in. The beautiful soft lighting inside is serene and makes you feel like you’re in your own little world.

Of course, we were starving by this point. Bodega had a food truck with a menu that sounded delicious, but I was craving my go-to pizza from Full of Life Flatbread.

YOU GUYS. No other pizza compares to Full of Life Flatbread‘s. I find myself craving it on a daily basis and always find myself tempted to drive an hour to take one home. It’s THAT good.

My go-to is the Coachella Valley Date and Bacon Flatbread, but I also love the Nitrate-Free Pepperoni and Peppers Flatbread and the Kalamata Olive and Feta Flatbread. We had a little bit of a sweet tooth as well, so we ordered the non-alcoholic Rocking Chair Ranch White Peach with sparking water and a brownie dessert, topped with a roasted marshmallow and vanilla ice cream.

(I’m honestly hoping my nutrition coach doesn’t read this particular blog post.)

We ended the day with a drive home while listening to some good ol’ country music. Los Alamos is a perfect getaway if you’re looking for something far enough away that is still within the California Central Coastline. Not only is it an easy go-to destination for you and your friends, its also family-friendly.
