I’ve been wanting to stay in an Airstream for awhile ever since my glamping inspiration spiked. I’ve been thinking about making the trek up to Auto Camp, right outside of Yosemite National Park, but wanted to find somewhere along the California Central Coast to experience first. That’s when I decided to stay at Caravan Outpost in Ojai!
Caravan Outpost is an Airstream glamping experience, which is the perfect happy-medium for non-campers and campers. There are eleven Airstreams on the grounds and they come with plenty of amenities. Each Airstream (mine was named Aubrey), has its own look which seems to be differentiated by the color schemes of the interior design and, of course, a bright and colorful Mexican blanket. The grounds make you feel like you’re in a tropical setting with dense greenery, which separates each Airstream from one other and gives privacy to all guests.
The communal area has been closed due to COVID, but will reopen soon enough. There is a nightly s’mores roasting that you can enjoy with other guests and a gift shop, which features goods from various Ojai artisans and businesses. During my stay, my best friend and I decided to enjoy the private yard of my Airstream. There was a great lounge area, tucked in amongst the beautiful palm trees. We opened up a bottle of Folded Hills Grant Grenache wine after we enjoyed dinner at Little Sama and chatted for hours. Caravan Outpost is close enough to town that you can rent one of their bikes and ride to the local shops and restaurants, but it’s also far enough from Ojai Avenue where you feel like you’re off-the-beaten path.
There was freshly brewed Bonito coffee in the morning at 8am. Bonito Coffee is a locally owned Ojai coffee roaster on the Central Coast, which you can find at Merci Montecito, Ojai Rotie, Canyon Supply, Capri Hotel, Ojai Rancho Inn, Westridge Market, and, of course, Caravan Outpost. Honestly — Being treated with this specialty coffee felt like a TREAT!
There are a lot of places to stay while visiting Ojai, but this is a great option if you’re looking for something *different*. Personally, I really like staying in unique places instead of regular hotels, so this was perfect for me.
