Glamping on the Twisselman Ranch

I’ve had the urge to travel even more than usual ever since the Covid-19 outbreak started. I’ve been working from home since mid-March and want to be outside as much as I can since I’m cooped up indoors all day long. Because traveling far is a little more complicated right now, I’ve been trying to take advantage of anything that would feel like some sort of vacation or adventure that is near my home…That’s when I learned about glamping at Twisselman Ranch.

My lovely friend Lidiya came with me — We both needed time away from Santa Barbara to clear our heads and gain a little inspiration. I was drawn to this particular glamping experience because of the aesthetic look, beautiful property, and the pond. I didn’t realize how far away this glamping experience was from the nearest town, but in hindsight, being an hour away from the closest store and not having any cell phone service was exactly what both of us needed!

The Twisselman family is a sixth or seventh generation working cattle ranch and farming operation in the Carissa Plains. Their family story is fascinating and has a leading-woman character. Five Twisselman brothers arrived in San Francisco bay in the early 1860’s. One of the brothers, Henry, met his wife Lizzie and moved south to San Luis Obispo in the late 1870’s, where they established Chorro Dairy. Half a decade later, Henry passed away from Tuberculosis, so Lizzie and their five children joined her family’s homestead in 1884 to help farm grain and raise livestock. This land is what we call the Twisselman Ranch and now reaches about 80,000 acres. Lizzie is one of the first pioneers of the California frontier!

I completely understand why this glamping experience was votedĀ 6th BEST HIPCAMP in the state of California. You start your visit with a meet-and-greet with Adriane, who gives you a tour of the grounds and helps point out some tips and tricks for your stay. The tents are really comfortable! Each tent is a little different, but they all come furnished with a comfortable bed, table, chairs, and a private propane fire pit, which is great for roasting s’mores.

There are five tents on the property that sit near a beautiful pond, where you can paddle boat, canoe, or fish in. It’s picture-perfect when the sun is setting! If the glamping tent experience isn’t your thing, you can also pitch your own tent or bring your motor-home.

Glamping on the Twisselman Ranch is gaining popularity quickly, so I highly recommend booking your stay sooner rather than later. I received lots of messages from people via Instagram while I was sharing my in-the-moment videos asking how they can visit and have this off-the-grid experience. Click here to book your stay!

You can also purchase high-quality, 100% grass fed, grass finished beef straight from their ranch. Click here to purchase your next family meal.

I can’t wait to go back during the springtime to see the wildflowers!
