I look forward to making gingerbread houses with my family every year. We used to buy the kits that you find at grocery stores or craft stores, however, this year I wanted to support a local business on the California Central Coast. Solvang Bakery is my favorite bakery in our area, and I’ve always known that they make the most incredible custom gingerbread houses during the holidays. These gingerbread houses are so extraordinary that they’ve even been featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show!
I decided to order one of their Gingerbread House Decorating Kits, so at least I can still have the fun experience of making it my own! I always have a blast playing around with the frosting and candy, but let’s be honest…Putting together the actual house and keeping the walls in-place is quite challenging. Year after year, I see people’s failed (yet hilarious) attempts, which end up looking like a collapsed pile of sugar. What I loved about Solvang Bakery’s Gingerbread House Decorating Kit is that it comes ASSEMBLED! Yes, it’s already frosted together, so you won’t have to worry about becoming frustrated when the left side of the house keeps falling down. Another reason I love their Gingerbread houses is the simple fact that the gingerbread has been recently baked in Solvang Bakery’s kitchen and hasn’t been sitting in a box on a shelf for years, which means…dun dun dun…You can safely eat it, as well!
This is the perfect activity to do with the kiddos or a group of friends (with masks)! We have to get creative this holiday season due to COVID-19 precautions taken by our state, and this is an easy solution for a fun evening while celebrating in the holidays.
The Gingerbread House Decorating Kit from Solvang Bakery includes:
- Two containers of icing
- Assorted candy, and doors/windows
- Faux pine trees
To give it your own personal touch, I recommend grabbing some unique candy from the store. You can even sift some powdered sugar over your finished product to make it seem like it snowed, even though our mountains rarely get snow on the California Central Coast. Get creative and have fun!
